May 2017 - Ottawa-Gatineau flood recovery Aid

Dear friends,

Hope the spring is treating you well! Ottawa's market is still hot (even if the weather isn't yet) and we are looking forward to good things to come in the summer. However, as you know, communities in Ottawa and Gatineau were recently faced with severe flooding that put their homes and families in danger, and I want to take a moment to pass along information that may help you or your loved ones recover financially if you have been affected by flood damage.

If you do not have overland flood insurance, there is provincial assistance available for which you may qualify. Ontario offers the Disaster Recovery Assistance program and Sécurité Publique Quebec has resources on Financial Assistance For Disaster Victims. Homeowners can apply for assistance for up to 120 days after their province activates the program in their affected area. The Ministry of Municipal Affairs has initiated the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians Program for the City of Ottawa as of May 13th, 2017.

If you have friends or family affected by flooding, let them know that now is the time to apply for financial aid!

Volunteers urgently needed — this time to take away sandbags

[The city] has called for volunteers age 16 and over in Fitzroy Harbour, Constance Bay and Dunrobin, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
