Wow, what a cold month February has turned out to be, and thank goodness its almost over and Spring Break is just around the corner. This month, thanks to Ottawa Tourism and various other sites, when March Break in Ottawa rolls around from the 2nd through the 20th of March, here are a few options below for you to consider with the family or on your own:

Bytown Museum
Interactive Scavenger Hunt - Here’s your chance to become a History Explorer! This scavenger hunt invites young visitors to find and collect seven different stories hidden on the Bytown Museum’s second and third floors.
Camp Fortune
Spring Break Ski Lessons - Learn how to ski from professionals during spring break with their 3, 4, or 5 day lesson options.
Canada Agriculture and Food Museum
Barnyard Break - From Feb. 28 to March 8, take in a wide variety of demonstrations, make some fascinating food discoveries, and visit the animals in the Museum’s barns. You can also explore Foodology to take in a wide variety of demonstrations that explore food science!
Canada Aviation and Space Museum
24th Annual LEGO Contest –Bring your space-inspired LEGO creation to the museum on March 6 and March 20 for a chance to win great prizes. Pre-registration is required.
Space Mining and Gaming –Discover the museum’s special Space Mining March Break exhibit that looks at the challenges of space mining. This exhibit runs from Feb. 28 to March 8, 2015. Kids from eight to 13 can also participate in a Minecraft Gaming Workshop, where they will team up to dig for materials and build a space shuttle. Pre-registration and an additional fee are required for the workshop.
Canadian Museum of History (formerly the Canadian Museum of Civilization), Children’s Museum
Tool Trek with Bob the Builder and Wendy - Until March 22, visit the Canadian Children’s Museum (at the Canadian Museum of History) to participate in Bob the Builder activities. In this Tool Trek, look for clues that lead to tools hidden in the Children’s Museum.
Canadian Museum of Nature
Arctic Food Fair – Step in from the cold and savour a special selection of Arctic-themed delicacies such as bannock, Arctic berry tea and much more! Kids can also decorate reindeer-shaped cookies. (Running Feb. 28 to March 8 and March 14 to 22, 2015)
Tiny Giants 3D – Take in this 3D movie that looks at one of our planet’s smallest creatures, the chipmunk. Presentations are available in English and French. (Running daily Feb. 28 to March 8, March 14 to 22, on weekends from March 28 to May 24, 2015 and on certain holidays)
Arctic Floor Map – Enjoy a walk across the Arctic on a large-scale floor map where kids can learn about geography and the natural history of Canada’s Arctic. Map activities will be available at 2:15 p.m., 2:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. daily throughout March Break.
Canadian War Museum
Strategy board games - Luck and skill play a role as you try to defeat your opponent and claim victory. With a variety of classic games available, there is something for everyone, from beginners to seasoned players!
Diefenbunker, Canada’s Cold War Museum
The Art of Espionage and Spy Camp - Take part in a massive, spy-themed training program with other kids.
Fulton’s Pancake House and Sugar Bush
Maple activities - Make maple taffy in the snow, go on a horse drawn carriage ride, go on a family hike and try some maple-flavoured cotton candy. The Fulton’s maple season goes from Feb. 14 to April 19, 2015.
Haunted Walk of Ottawa
Jail Tours - Families can take a spooky guided tour though Ottawa, which is a unique way to see the city. Tour the Old Carleton County Jail and learn about why Ottawa was once considered 'the most dangerous town in North America'. Learn about early prison life, as you see the jail cells, death row and the last working gallows in Canada.
Mount Pakenham
March Break Ski Camp - From March 16 to 20, kids aged six to 12 can participate in a 3, 4 or 5 day ski camp that offers four hours of instruction per day, lunch and other activities such as snowshoeing, skating, movies and more!
National Gallery of Canada
Artissimo - This weekend series of hands-on workshops has kids making their own creative artworks in the museum.
Shenkman Arts Centre
March Break camps - From March 16 to 20, kids can participate in various March Break programs that explore digital arts, theatre, smartphone video-making, drawing, cartooning and more. Registration begins Jan. 14, 2015.
Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm
Spring season events - Bring the family to an all-you-can-eat homemade pancake brunch and enjoy the petting zoo and sugar shacking while you’re there. The Stanley’s Maple Lane Farm maple season goes from Feb. 28 to April 12, 2015. (Weekends only)
